Intacs are designed to treat Mild Myopia

Key Benefits

Intacs are an additive procedure: Rather than removing tissue from  the central part of the cornea, Intacs are inserted into the cornea, which  causes the central portion to flatten.

Intacs leave the central "Optical Zone" alone: Intacs are  inserted into the peripheral area of the cornea which leaves the center  of  the cornea untouched.

Adjustability / Reversibility: In the event of Over-correction,  Under-correction or other complication, Intacs can either be exchanged to  improve vision, or removed to restore the vision to nearly the same  refractive state as before surgery.

Risks / Alternatives

As with any operative procedure, there are risks to Intacs Surgery.  These can include, but are not limited to:

Glare or Halos
This is the #1 reported side affect of any Refractive Procedure. the  symptoms have been described as being similar to those reported by  Contact lens wearers. The symptoms of Glare or Halos may or may not  reduce over time. Fluctuation of Vision
Some patients report that their vision fluctuates either on a  "day to day" basis or sometimes throughout the day. These  symptoms, too may or may not diminish with time. Astigmatism
Unfortunately, Intacs do not correct for Astigmatism. There have  been a few reported cases of induced Astigmatism with all forms of  Refractive Surgery, including Intacs.

These are just a few of the potential risks with Refractive Surgery of  all kinds. A thorough examination and detailed consultation is required  prior to any surgery to  fully inform you of the risks, benefits and  alternatives for YOUR EYES.
